IUSD recently hosted its annual 21st Century Career Conference at UCI’s Beckman Center. More than 400 seventh-grade students from the District’s 10 middle schools had the opportunity to learn from Orange County STEM professionals and explore various career options and educational pathways.
The nearly 40 professionals in attendance ranged from companies such as Google and Blizzard to individual experts in the fields of rocket science, quantum mechanics, dentistry and geology. They volunteered their time to deliver 35-minute informational and inspirational presentations across four sessions. Students selected sessions to learn more about careers and industries of interest.
IUSD Board President Lauren Brooks and Superintendent Terry Walker were on hand and joined the District’s STEM team for this engaging, student-centered event. IUSD would like to give special thanks to all volunteers and to the Irvine Public Schools Foundation, the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, and Google Fiber, whose support made the conference possible.
