IUSD in the News: School board member honored as Business Person of the Year

An IUSD school board member has been named the 2012 Business Person of the Year by a prominent business group.

Dr. Gavin Huntley-Fenner was honored Aug. 23 by the Black Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, which promotes business and economic development within the public and private sectors. The Orange County Register has the full story here. A scientist and managing consultant with Huntley-Fenner Advisors, Dr. Huntley-Fenner is serving his second term on the IUSD Board of Education, and he's currently a candidate for the Irvine City Council. He told the Register he was grateful to be recognized for his community efforts, as well as his work providing scientific advisory services to help promote the safe and effective use of consumer products. "I am deeply honored, especially being the first person in my family to start a business as I did from scratch," Dr. Huntley-Fenner told the newspaper. "It's been hard work and I feel like the chamber has been supportive throughout, so it's just icing on the cake for me."
