After taking the field for separate performances, marching bands from IUSD’s four comprehensive high schools will join forces for a big finale during this year’s upcoming “Band Spectacular.” The event, which will be held at the Irvine High School Stadium, starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24. IUSD’s marching bands never fail to impress with polished performances at these types of shows. And we hope we’re not spoiling the ending by telling you that more than 1,200 middle and high school students are planning to form a giant mega-band for the finale. We won’t say what songs they’re playing, but word on the street is they’ll be conducted by IUSD Superintendent Terry Walker, who, to our knowledge, has no prior conducting experience. That alone should justify the price of admission, which is $5 for individuals and $10 for families, with concessions available for purchase. The proceeds will support instrumental music throughout the district. The 2012 Band Spectacular is being produced by the Timberwolf Instrumental Music Boosters and the cleverly named University High School Band Aides.
