Parents and community members are invited to attend a special ceremony this Friday, April 30, to dedicate a new organic garden on the campus of Plaza Vista School. Made possible by a grant from Savannah’s Organic Ranch, the garden was planted Sunday in honor of Plaza Vista eighth-grader Casey Strale. Organic garden takes root at Plaza Vista
Savannah's Organic Ranch was established to continue the legacy of Savannah Sachen, a young girl who sought to educate others on the benefits of eating healthy and growing food in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner. Savannah, who battled a rare form of cancer, died in 2007 at age 8. In an e-mail sent to the Plaza Vista community, Principal Heather Phillips thanked the many students, parents and staff members who made the local garden possible. “According to the wonderful people at Savannah’s Ranch, this is the best garden yet and they were very impressed with how much support they’ve received from the community, the staff and the district,” Mrs. Phillips wrote. Work will continue on the garden throughout the week. Friday’s ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the school, located at 870 Paseo Westpark.
