Well, that was fast. Today marked the first day of classes for IUSD students attending the district’s four year-round schools. Those would be Plaza Vista School, Vista Verde School, Westpark Elementary and Woodbury Elementary. As the term implies, year-round schools continue through the summer, but they take three lengthy breaks throughout the year, ensuring that students and staff get the same number of instructional days. The idea is to give Irvine families the choice of an alternate calendar. If you happen to attend Plaza Vista, Vista Verde, Westpark or Woodbury, welcome back. And you probably already know that you're only two months away from a fall recess, which spans Sept. 24 through Oct 12. Meanwhile, the first day for IUSD students who attend schools on the traditional calendar is Wednesday, Sept. 5. For more information, or to access a 2012-13 district calendar, click here.
