AQMD reported that air-quality in Irvine has improved. Outdoor activities and sports will resume. Please look for emails from your schools and coaches. If conditions change, IUSD will notify our families immediately.
Irvine Status Update - Wednesday, October 11, 7:20 a.m.
According to OCFA, there is no status change for Irvine and NO evacuation orders. IUSD schools remain open today. At this time, outdoor activities/sports are on modified and/or canceled status. Please look for updates from your schools and coaches. We will continue to provide air-quality updates as we have them from the SCAQMD.
IUSD Schools are Open Update - Tuesday, October 10, 5:20 a.m.
Orange County Sheriff's Department reports, at this time, the Canyon Fire 2 does not pose a threat to Irvine. IUSD schools will remain open. Outdoor activities and sports are on modified and/or canceled status. Please look for updates from your schools and coaches.
IUSD will continue to work closely with OCFA, the Irvine Police Department and other agencies to monitor the fire's path and related impacts such as air quality. If conditions change, the District will notify families immediately by email, voicemail and text message. Also, visit IUSD social media sites for updates (addresses are below).
School is in Session Update – Monday, October 9, 8:55 p.m.
At this time, IUSD schools will be in session tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 10). Outdoor activities and sports will remain on modified and/or canceled status due to poor air quality. Continue to check for updates from your schools and coaches.
While the Tustin Unified School District had some schools in their northern sphere evacuated and have canceled classes for their entire district, IUSD schools have not been impacted at this time. Should anything change, IUSD and any affected schools will notify families immediately by text message, email and voicemail. Please check these resources first and also continue to check here for updates.
Canyon Fire 2 IUSD School Related Update: Monday, October 9, 7:35 p.m.
At this time, the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) has NOT issued evacuation orders for Irvine. IUSD will continue to work closely with OCFA and the Irvine Police Department to monitor the situation. Check this website and IUSD social media regularly for school-related updates.

Air Quality Update: Monday, October 9, 2 p.m.
The Canyon Fire 2 has impacted Irvine air quality. In accordance with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) air quality advisory, IUSD schools sports and outdoor activities have been canceled or modified. The current advisory states, “In any area where you can see or smell smoke, everyone should avoid vigorous exertion and limit outdoor exposure.” We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day. Please do the same for your athletic activities after school. Depending on the wind conditions the effects of the fire could change dramatically.
