Corporate sponsors are being sought for a big awards banquet that will recognize the top teachers in the Irvine Unified School District. The 26th annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Banquet is scheduled to take place Friday, May 11 at the Irvine Marriott. Business sponsorships, which range in price from $1,500 to $2,500, secure seats at the event, table signage and an advertisement in this year’s program. Organized by the Exchange Club of Irvine in conjunction with the Irvine Teachers Association and IUSD, the annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Banquet honors outstanding teachers from all of IUSD’s campuses – as well as a handful from special programs within the district. The evening culminates in the recognition of Irvine’s elementary, middle and high school Teachers of the Year. Shelley Naramore of Eastshore Elementary School, Lori Fallace of Venado Middle School and Mike Gerakos of University High School were announced as this year’s winners during surprise visits to their campuses on Feb. 16.
