Our friends at the Orange County Fire Authority say Irvine families will be able to do all that, and learn a thing or two about fire safety, during the agency’s seventh annual Open House on Saturday, Oct. 13. The OCFA has been a great partner to IUSD, and its Regional Fire Operations & Training Center is (thankfully) right in our backyard. The Open House will be held at that facility, located at 1 Fire Authority Road in Irvine, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Jamboree and Tustin Ranch roads are the main cross streets.) “October is Fire Prevention Month and we are opening our Operations & Training Facility to the community so that residents of Orange County can see how their firefighters train,” said OCFA Fire Chief Keith Richter. “This is just one way that we can give back to the communities we serve.” Along with meeting some local firefighters, visitors will learn how firefighters prepare and stay on top of the latest techniques. There will also be search-and-rescue dogs, as well as live demonstrations every half-hour beginning at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit the OCFA’s website.
