The Only In Irvine student video contest premier will be held on Friday, April 28 at Northwood High School from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., there will be food trucks offering complimentary meals and snacks, live music and fun photo ops. The video screening will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This free public event is hosted by the Irvine Company as part of their campaign to highlight students’ unique Irvine experiences, which have been captured in dynamic three-minute films. Now in its second year, the Only In Irvine video contest includes student teams from all five IUSD high schools.
After the screening, voting will be open to the public until Monday, May 22 at midnight. During this nearly month-long voting period, the public is invited to vote once a day for its favorite Only In Irvine high school video at OnlyInIrvine.com. The winning team will be announced on Tuesday, May 23 and recognized at the IUSD Board of Education meeting the same evening. The Irvine Company will present the winning team with a $5,000 grand prize. All participating high schools will receive $2,500.
Online voting comprises 25% of the 100% total score for the videos. The remaining scoring will be awarded by a panel of judges at the April 28 premier event.
The panel’s judging criteria includes:
Theme (25%): How well each video conveys the “Irvine at Play” theme and reflects and complements the overarching Only In Irvine program.
Creativity (25%): How well each video creatively uses people, locations, narration, music and other elements.
Technical (25%): How the teams handle technical challenges and use them to add dimension and style to their videos.
