Sierra Vista’s Science Olympiad team hosted a Science Olympiad invitational at Beacon Park School in which 76 elementary and middle school teams from California and Texas, including 28 IUSD teams competed. This STEM-based competition was comprised of knowledge events designed by experts from government agencies, top universities, and industry and covers topics in physics, epidemiology, astronomy, chemistry, meteorology and coding. In addition, engineering events like “Wheeled Vehicle,” “Sounds of Music,” and “Bridges” were live spectator-friendly events.
Congratulations to all of the teams who participated! During Olympiad season, some teams may compete in up to 20 Olympiad competitions leading up to the regional, state and national competitions.
This phenomenal event was organized and run by Sierra Vista’s Science Olympiad team, which took first in the national competition last year, their coach Shaun Evola, IUSD school teachers and staff, Jeffrey Trail Olympiad students, SV and JT alumni, and many wonderful parent volunteers. Thank you!
In addition to a great day of STEM many of our students also had leadership opportunities by helping to set up and run the elementary events.
IUSD Board Members, Paul Bokota, Jeff Kim, Katie McEwen and Cyril Yu were also in attendance to celebrate our outstanding students!
