Memorial services for Kent “K.J.” Bentley, the beloved teacher and coach from Woodbridge High School, will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, at the Mariners Church Worship Center in Irvine. Mr. Bentley, who joined the Woodbridge staff as an English teacher and wrestling coach in 1998 following two years at Irvine High, died suddenly as a result of cardiovascular disease on Monday, Sept. 20. He was 46. Revered by students and colleagues, the popular educator was part of a family that taught generations of Irvine students. He is survived by his wife, Mary, who teaches at Westpark Elementary School; daughters Jill and Katie, who is also a teacher at Westpark; his sister, Tamara Striler, who teaches at Plaza Vista School; his mother, Joan, who taught at Culverdale Elementary School; his father, Kent Sr., who retired from Irvine High; and his grandmother, Alberta.
