Dear IUSD Community,
Today, Governor Newsom announced that due to declining COVID-19 case rates and decreased hospitalizations, the state will adopt new indoor mask policies, setting TK-12 school districts on a path for transitioning away from indoor mask mandates to allow for personal mask choice. In particular, the state will move from requiring students to wear masks indoors to “strongly recommending” that students wear masks indoors. As a reminder, health officials have stated that they will continue to make adjustments to COVID policies based on health conditions in California.
The new policies will take effect after March 11, with March 14 being the first possible date for implementation in schools. In the meantime, please note that indoor mask requirements remain in place, per state mandates, through March 11.
As one of the first school districts in California to open for TK-12 in-person instruction, including a full-time TK-6 in-person instruction program, IUSD remains committed to following state and local health and safety guidelines, which we have done since the onset of COVID-19. It is IUSD’s adherence to these guidelines and mandates that has enabled our schools to remain open for in-person instruction with no school closures, while preventing and limiting the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses.
