Woodbridge High School (WHS) Entertainment Corps has once again demonstrated its musical and visual arts excellence by capturing the California State Band Championships (CSBC) title for Division 6A and winning the coveted open-class gold medal. This remarkable achievement marks the seventh Division 6A championship win in the past nine seasons and the first open-class victory in WHS history.

WHS achieved an impressive score of 96.150 in the championship, excelling across a range of judging categories. As a part of the victory title, WHS also took home a prize of $1,500.

A special recognition goes to the band’s student leaders whose guidance and talent contributed to this success. Drum majors and auxiliary captains included:

  • Declan Hu

  • Amin Nahas

  • Josh Koines

  • Charlotte Pham (who also received the top soloist award)

  • Amy Matsumoto

  • Katie Melendez

  • Nyah Terry

At CSBC, winning a division competition signifies that a marching band performed the best within its size category, excelling in musicality, visual performance and overall execution. On the other hand, the Open Class Finals is where the top groups from Northern and Southern California are invited to compete on an equal playing field. The top 15 highest-scoring bands from Divisions 4A, 5A and 6A qualify for this prestigious final competition, where they vie for the Open Class State Championship. Achieving both a division win and the Open Class Finals victory is a rare accomplishment that solidifies a band’s reputation as one of the best in the state.

The success of the team is also shared with the dedicated teachers and coaches who tirelessly guide, teach and support our students. A special thank you also goes out to the incredible parent volunteers. From field show supporters and percussion movers to concession stand workers, hair and makeup helpers, truck drivers and countless other roles, your dedication and hard work make moments like these possible for our students.

This win solidifies WHS’s reputation as a powerhouse in musical performance and artistry. Congratulations to the WHS band on this historic season!
