End of Year Message from Superintendent Walker

Dear IUSD Community,

As the 2023-24 school year comes to a close, on behalf of the IUSD Board of Education, I would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt appreciation to our students, staff and families for another wonderful year filled with many achievements and opportunities for growth. This year, we have accomplished so much together, from academic successes and inspiring performances to athletic triumphs and community-building events and activities. I am continually amazed by the dedication and resilience that each of you brings to our district.  You are the “US” at the center of IUSD and we could not provide the highest quality educational experience we can envision for all of our more than 38,000 students without your ongoing partnership and support.

In May, we also recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial reminder of the importance of supporting each other's well-being. To help the IUSD community learn more about this topic, I encourage you to read the May edition of IUSD Insights. This issue contains valuable resources and information about mental health awareness and how to access a variety of supports and services for students and families.  You’ll also find information about supporting literacy and reading during the summer months from our Literacy team, and our annual Summer Safety Tips, which include e-vehicle, water, sun, and outdoor safety reminders. 

Additionally, summer is a time for exploration and maintaining social connections. The City of Irvine and the Irvine Public Schools Foundation offer a variety of summer classes and programs that can help students stay active and engaged during the break. Please take a moment to check out these wonderful community resources for a fun and enriching summer.

Finally, we hope you will enjoy plenty of family time this summer, be in the moment with those you care about, and find joy in the simple things. Thank you once again for all you do to support IUSD schools, students and families.
